What is one thing you need to be successful?

Is it luck? Be hardworking? Network with others? Join a mastermind group?

Every Thursday, I write a newsletter. It doesn’t matter if I don’t feel like it or I don’t have anything to say, I make sure a newsletter will come out every week no matter what.

Consistency. That’s the answer.

Anyone successful in business, in saving money, in family life, in gardening, in playing a piano - has all one thing in common. They’re consistent.

Consistency is all about doing it even though you’re lazy, or down, or sad, or busy. Consistency is not allowing excuses to stop you from reaching your goal. Consistency is about showing up regularly.

Those who are successful in saving money don’t make any excuses on why they can’t save this month. They just save.

People who are successful in business are consistent in working on their business in spite of low sales or having a customer complaint.

Healthy people are consistent in eating healthy and exercising.

 I hear you babe, being consistent is easy when you’re motivated. Once the excitement wears off, it’s so freaking hard to continue. It happens to me, too (all the time!) And our lack of consistency is extremely painful and frustrating. We know that consistency is the key to achieve something great yet somehow we continue to fail.

It seems the only thing we are consistent with is starting something and then stopping before getting any results. I understand if you beat up yourself with this because I do.

But you know what, there’s hope.

Feeling bad about it won’t do any good. We can change the game by first understanding why we fail and take the required steps to make sure we can avoid the usual pitfalls.

Do you know the reason why you’re struggling to be consistent?

You’re focused on the outcome rather than the process.

Obviously, outcome is important, but focusing too much on it results in dissatisfaction. We know that anything great requires patience, some sacrifice, and work. Most of the time, we want our desired outcome to come fast and instant. Can you see the disconnect?

 

We want to believe that if we post our products on Facebook, everyone will see how amazing our product is and start buying. We assume that just because we're offering something amazing and helpful (probably can even change your customers' lives) that they will come running and throw out their money to you. These are the outcomes we want to have, and if it doesn't happen, money blocks creep in. "It's not for you." "You're meant to do something else." "Who do you think you are?" "Just quit!"

 

You'll never truly know if you can accomplish something or be great at something if you don't commit.

 

And how can you practice consistency?

1. Set a goal.

2. Know your 'why'.

3. Build habits.

 Let me tell you though some process that you can do to develop consistency. Something easier to do and remember.

Do it anyway

It doesn't matter if there are no live audience on my webinars, I will talk as if there are hundreds in there. I'll disregard my disappointment and delay my pity party and do my presentation the best I could in that moment.

 

They said half-assing is bad but you know what? I recommend that you half-assed it with everything you've got. You might think you're a mediocre but it's better than stopping.

Can't save 1000 this month because of whatever emergency, then keep 100 pesos and deposit it to your account. Don't say to yourself, 'I'll just save 2000 next month', because chances are you won't if another emergency arises. Be consistent in saving whatever amount no matter what.

 

Uninspired? Hit the gym anyway.

Uninspired? Make that sales call anyway.

Uninspired? Post that picture on your business page anyway.

Go back to basics

 Most of the time, we overcomplicate things. We want to go to the advanced stuff because it makes things more exciting and fun. Sure, we can go advance, why not, but have you learned the basics?

 

Learning about Messenger bots and sales funnel are all fancy and techy but do you know the basics of writing a compelling sales copy?

 

Do you feel the need to come up with fancy flavors and pretty designs for your cake business? Well, that's good, but make sure that your products taste good in the first place. Basic.

 

Don't try to learn and do advanced things when you're feeling crap. Do and learn about them when your creative juices are overflowing and your energy is 101%. On days that you don't feel like it, go back to basics.

Anticipate the dip

 Seth Godin, one of the most prolific writers on the planet, says that anything worth pursuing will have a messy middle. The dip is what separates the quitters from those who will experience amazing success.

 

Quitting is not a bad thing in itself. In life, we should know when to quit and move on.

 

By anticipating the dip though, you are aware that this is just a phase and will definitely pass or decide if you want to stop and focus on something worthwhile of your time and energy.

 

I can't remember the number of times when I thought I should just abandon The Wealthy Pinay and do something else. I'm an excellent employee, I can focus on my other businesses, or just be a dedicated full-time SAHM. Anything except TWP because apparently, this passion I'm pursuing SUCKS!!!

 

I anticipated this dip though. I know that it's just a phase because of my disappointment or overwhelming emotions. Once it wears off, deep in my heart, I can't stop TWP because this is me. This is my advocacy and my passion. This is what I want to do and I'm hell bent to make this work.

Find a mentor

 Or an accountability partner, or a coach, or a mastermind group. Find like-minded people you can talk to and vent your frustrations. At the same time, people who can kick your ass when you're lagging behind because they understand that it's just a phase and you're meant to continue.

 

You don't need to tell everyone of your goals. Just 1-2 people who you know can help you be accountable of your goals and dreams. I can be that mentor if you'll allow me.

Forgive yourself

 As I said earlier, being inconsistent causes shame and guilt. We disappoint and beat ourselves up for being lazy, for giving up, for getting distracted, for lack of discipline, and so on. Honestly, we can't avoid being lazy, giving up, getting distracted, and undisciplined. Understand that they're part of life.

Don't let a day of disappointment ruin your entire week. Don't let a month of bad sales ruin your next month. It doesn't make sense to punish yourself by being more demotivated.

 

Forgive yourself and move on whenever you experience a set back. Understand that disappointment is simply part of the game.

No one achieved great things by quitting. Most of the time, success happens to those who do actions consistently even though they're just half-assing it. You can do this!

You can use the Law of Attraction to get anything you want including money. 

But for some, it is easier to start by attracting the actual thing you want instead of money. The reason is there are lots (and I mean A LOT) of money blocks associated with money and wealth. The concept of money comes with a lot of baggage, and that baggage can block your positive intentions.

Many people resist money. In fact, YOU might resist receiving money now.

"Oh, you're wrong LynJoy. I don't have that block. I want money and I want to receive more of them."

Let's do a simple test then to check how you really feel about money.

Can you imagine manifesting 500 by Sunday without doing anything hard or complicated to get it? How does that feel?

Now imagine manifesting an extra 50,000 by next Sunday again without doing anything hard or complicated? Do you feel any difference? That is called money block.

Most people find it easier to manifest small things - good parking spot, extra 1k, winning giveaways. For others, they don't have resistance in attracting good job, perfect partner, a business.

But when it's time to dream bigger and grander, everything gets triggered.

Did you resist believing that you can have 50,000 next Sunday? 

"It's impossible."
"There's no way I can have that amount."
"That means I have to work harder."
"Only if I win the lottery."

Many people have resistance to receiving money and they're not aware of it until it's brought to their attention.

Is it possible to release my money blocks?

The good news? The answer is YES.
The not so good news, you can't just read one article and change your mindset that quickly.

Improving your abundance mindset is more than reciting affirmations or doing vision boards. It is more than writing in your journal or wearing crystals everyday. To attract money, you have to have good relationship with money. 

But why is it that some people are better in manifesting money than others? If you're following The Wealthy Pinay for some time now, for sure you've heard me talk about affirmations, gratitude, and forgiveness as powerful tools to manifest money. I realized though that I haven't told you much about one of the secrets to actually manifest everything you want.

What is the powerful secret?

Well, it's actually not that secret. One of the Wealthy Pinay mantras is "BELIEVE". Have deep faith that everything you want is possible for you. Never doubt.

Now, to manifest anything, let's say money, you must learn to embrace the 'void'. The void is the feeling of not much feeling anything. I know that this is against what we were thought about the law of attraction wherein one has to fill her thoughts with positivity, abundance, and happiness. 

We are thought that to manifest whatever we desire, we need to constantly fill our mind with what we want - visualize it, feel it, taste it. And we should always be happy and positive.

Ironic actually, but once we focused too much on being happy and positive, we become stressed that we're not 24/7 happy and positive. So we end up trying and trying and trying to be happy that we're almost desperate.
Do you think we're emitting positive vibration, huh?

The 'void' is a state where you're not trying to manifest through various tools we often do to make shit happens. Remember that the law of attraction is all about energy. Working hard to be happy and positive actually creates the opposite. 

LACK OF POSITIVE EMOTION IS DIFFERENT THAN NEGATIVE EMOTION

Feeling unproductive doesn't translate to being depressed.
Maybe it's your body and mind telling you to pause and reflect.
The thing is, whenever we feel shit, we try our hardest to get out of it.
It is important to feel good and have a positive and optimistic mindset. 
But the key to manifesting is the lack of resistance.

You have to stop trying so hard to manifest.

To be honest, trying to manifest money when desperate or 'gigil' will actually do the opposite. 

Look at your life right now. I bet that many relationships, material possessions, and achievements you have were manifested without you even thinking about them. It just happened. Without resistance, without you praying hard for it, without exerting too much effort. You believe that it will happen and it's yours, and now you have them.

Remember that manifesting is always about what you are ‘being’ not what you are ‘doing’. Embracing the 'void' can be challenging and requires conscious practice. You have to consciously choose to avoid resistance to welcome money to your life.

I was alone for a few hours on the first night of my mother-in-law's funeral.
I was sad.
I was really tired.
Yet, my mind was listing 100 things I needed to do the next few days - flower arrangements, grocery shopping, talk to the crematorium, force Gibson to rest, write scripts for Pinay Money Bootcamp.

Thinking about it now, I'm amazed at how I managed to pull it all off.
Apart from one big zit on my cheek, I survived that phase.
It helped that I didn't see any wandering spirits at the funeral chapel (Well, I could have seen one or two, but this is not a horror post so I'll spare you with the details)

August and September have been a rollercoaster of emotions for me. 

My mother-in-law passed away.
My kids started their homeschool journey.
I launched the only money mindset course in the Philippines.
And I'm celebrating my 40th birthday tomorrow.

There are days that I'm too sad and worried.
And sometimes I'll be too occupied that I don't have time to be lonely.
Many days I feel there are not enough hours in a day.
But also has this feeling I haven't accomplished anything.

Why am I telling you this?

Because maybe you're feeling the same way, too.
Maybe you're worried, scared, depleted, sad.
Maybe you're feeling alone and tired.
Maybe you're afraid of the future and what will happen next.
or maybe you're ma-drama like me (birthday blues, for sure!)

It's normal to feel all these emotions. 
We are human after all. 
Unless you're six feet underground, you're bound to feel something.

But do you know what keeps us going?
Why are you still working?
Why are you still holding on?
Why haven't you given up?

Because of HOPE.

That one day it will be better.
That one day all your hard work will pay off.
That soon everything that your heart's desires will be yours.

But do you know what's better than hoping? 
Combine your faith with actions. 

If I let my emotions took over my mama's death, I don't know what will happen to her funeral.
If I let my sadness ruled, Pinay Money Bootcamp's participants will find a blank screen on their membership page.
If I focused more on my dramatic moments, I'll just lay down on the bed and watch all YT dog videos on repeat.

It's okay to have your moments but try your hardest to get up and continue.
No one can help you get out of the rut except yourself.
No one can help you save if you won't stop spending.
You won't have your dream business unless you work for it.

HOPE is admirable but FAITH WITH ACTIONS are what will drive you to achieve your goals.

If you're doing all the actions but can't seem to get the result you want, it's time to go deeper and for sure it's your limiting beliefs aka money blocks are the culprit. 

The thing is, people aren't aware of their money blocks. They don't know that they have these deep-rooted negative beliefs about money and success that prevent them from reaching their goals. They think that they are the problem - they're too sensitive, too honest, not good enough, not smart enough. Sometimes, they blame other people for their misfortunes - it's the government's fault, because their parents are poor, or only the rich are getting richer. Or they don't have the opportunities to succeed - if only they can work abroad, if only their salary is higher, if only they finished college, if only they have more friends.

And these money blocks are manifesting in different ways.
You can't start your business.
You can't save.
You spend more than you earn.
You work harder.
You're depressed.
Your relationships are suffering.
You can't attract clients.

If you've been following TWP for years, you know that I'm all about money mindset. Reprogramming your money beliefs will help you achieve anything you set your mind to. You won't rely on 'hope' anymore because you'll gain a deep understanding of how the mind works. You are strong.
You are amazing.

I have highlighted the last line because many of us, specially women, have this huge resistance to receiving. We always give - our time, our energy, our money, our knowledge - and we do it without asking for anything in return. That's very good quality, of course. The problem is we don't feel worthy to receive. We never ask for an increase in salary. We always deflect compliments. We give discounts and promotions because we feel we're not worthy to receive money from the services and products we offer. Can you relate?

So you see, if you're struggling saving money, can't find your dream job, scared to quit your job, or start your business, then I suggest work on your money blocks first. Because HOPING that one day everything will fall into place is actually just that, hope. You have to take action. And not the actions in the sense that you have to cry blood and tears, but they are the inner works required to release all your limiting beliefs.

I started doing proper goal setting in 2015. I say proper because I realized that prior to that year, I never really set any SMART, intentional goals. My goals back then were to save and pay off all my debts. And to be happy of course.
So vague. Not measurable. Nothing specific.

Then I came across the Law of Attraction wherein it says that you can achieve anything you want by just having a deep desire. The idea intrigued me so I researched it more. The more I learned about it, the more I realized that the life I want is truly possible. I just needed to figure out first what the heck does that life looks like. Being happy is as muddy as the Pasig River as a goal.

My goal setting tips are a combination of manifesting, visualization, scientifically-proven techniques, logic and lots of action!

Does it work? HELL YES! Just this year, I’m able to accomplish these goals:

• Reached my savings target.
• We completed the construction of our house.
• We launched Pearl Balls.
• TWP community is growing.
• I sold out the first printing of my book.

My life-long dream to become a stay-at-home mom and retire from my daytime job finally happened this year too. If I may add, I was able to retire my husband too.

Are all these just coincidences? Luck? Am I just blessed?

Sure, I am so much blessed. My deep faith that God is always guiding me every step of the way is very apparent in all I do. My faith gives me the courage to take risks. My faith gives me confidence that I’m guided. My faith protects me.

And we’re all blessed. Do you agree?
So how come others achieve their goals and some don’t?
Why is it that some achieve their dreams faster than others?

I can give 82645237 reasons but we don’t have time. Rather than telling you what doesn’t work, let me share what actually needs to be done. My ever-practical Virgo girl inside me wants some actionable steps so here it is:

Achieve your dreams

1. Write it down.

I can’t emphasize this enough. Get a proper notebook/journal and write your goals. This article explains this extensively Neuroscience Explains Why You Need To Write Down Your Goals If You Actually Want To Achieve Them

Writing your goals and dreams forces your brain to imagine what you really want. Instead of ideas floating in your brain, writing them on paper gives structure and clarity.

2. Make it really juicy.

‘Save 200k in 6 months’. This is a nice goal. SMART even.
But it’s kind of boring. What if you decide that by achieving 200k savings in 6 months, you’ll treat yourself by buying a 1000 thread count Egyptian cotton bedding. Can you imagine how feathery soft these bed sheets and blankets when it touches your skin? Can you imagine lying in bed at 9pm and your tired body will sink into these cottony, cloudy bed? Can you see, feel and even smell it?

You can go for a holiday, stay in a hotel, go shopping. Make your dreams as juicy as it can be.

3. Visualize it

Create a Pinterest board or download a vision board app. You can physically cut papers from magazines. Make it as your screensaver.

Seeing your ‘dreams’ often remind you to take action. The saying ‘out of sight, out of mind’ is kinda true when it comes to our goals. When real life shits happen, our dreams and goals drift quietly into oblivion. Visual reminders are important to avoid this.

4. Intention is more important than perfection.

How can you save 200k in 6 months? Should you save 30% of your salary no matter what? Should you sell some of your old stuff? Should you do freelancing jobs? Should you start a business?

My advice, do everything! Because everything works if you believe it does. Set your intention. Believe that it will happen and you’ve already won half the battle.

5. Watch the energy you emit.

I know it’s hard to be positive 24/7. There’s no such person.
Shit happens and you’ll get affected. Either a family member triggers you.
Or you get disappointed by low sales. Maybe you’re down with flu and tasks just piled up and you wonder how can you complete everything.

It’s ok to sulk and wallow in despair but get out of the rut soon. How? Look at your goals. Read again your dreams. Re-visit the vision you painted when you wrote your goals. Feel it, see it, hear it, taste it.

Forgive yourself for missing your goals. Forgive your financial mistakes. The past might haunt you but remember that it doesn’t need to define your future.

6. List your triggers

Goals, especially money related, are quite difficult to accomplish. You know why? Because of our freaking money blocks. Money blocks manifest in different ways:

• You stop trying when the outcome is not as you have planned.
• You don’t want to open emails or messages.
• You can’t help watching TV, Youtube videos or scrolling hours on your various social media accounts.
• You don’t feel like doing anything when it’s raining.
• You hate your husband when he watches tv while you spend your spare time doing household chores.
• It frustrates you seeing your friends travelling.
• When you get disappointed, you hear yourself saying this: “Screw that. Money is not important!!!”

List down all your money blocks and how it manifests in your everyday life. It is important to know when it happens and why it happens. What triggers them? Is there any way to avoid these triggers? What is your back-up plan if you get triggered?

Personally, I do batch content. I write like a storm when I’m in a mood and shoot several videos when I’m inspired and motivated. I try to schedule my posts so on days I feel shit, I still have contents.

I also unfollow people that irritate me. Nothing personal, I just don’t like them. I avoid reading news about politics, crime and anything negative. Whenever I feel down, I lift others by giving advice, writing something useful, and talking business with my husband. Whenever I feel helpless, I pray and let go, and I then whip my ass and do something useful.

7. Share your goal with me.

I’m dead serious. Share your goal with me. Unless you have a mastermind group, business bestie or mindset mentor, telling your dreams to family or friends might be received with raised eyebrows, skepticism or doubt. The person might have a genuine love for you but it won’t translate they believe you’ll make it.

Being a money mindset mentor, I always encouraged people to dream bigger and better. I understand their shitty beliefs about money and help them overcome these beliefs. I believe in action too and being a natural teacher, I love giving scripts, templates and step-by-step guides.

Finding someone whom you can share all your outrageous financial goals without shame and judgment is important. If you can’t find one in your inner circle, start with me. I’ll wait.

Goal setting is a muscle. It gets weak when we don’t practice it often. Goal setting doesn’t need to happen during the start of the year. You can apply it in other aspects of your life too – family, spiritual, charity, physical, etc.

That time when I wrote my 20 to 2020 goals, I’m not entirely sure how it will happen. I mean, resign from my job by 2020? How? But God works in mysterious ways and my favorite Bible verse: “With God all things are possible.” The Wealthy Pinay mantra: Dream, Believe, Take Action.

Now that I’m turning a new chapter of my life – that is being a returning OFW – I want to start a new list of all the amazing things I want to manifest. Note that I won’t mention about good health, safety, great relationships, deeper connection with God, etc because these are all universal and everybody wants them (unless one is psychotic) so please don’t write a message lambasting me for being materialistic, narcissistic, blah blah.

It would be interesting to read this after 5 years let say. For sure some of these things which seem luxury now will become my normal after a few years. Ten years ago, I can’t imagine ordering more than 2 appetizers yet nowadays it’s something we don’t think about when dining out.

So here we go: things I want to do, I want to have, and I want to become.

Business & Career

• Have a bestseller book
• Be recognized nationwide as money-mindset & wealth coach
• TWP earns Php 150k net monthly
• Help Gibson create a multi-million franchise business
• Own studio for video shoots
• Sold-out TWP seminars and training
• Employ people with special needs/disabilities (goal is 25% of my workforce)
• Redesign my website

Personal development, Health & Lifestyle

• Hire personal gym & yoga instructor
• Go to meditation & spiritual retreat
• Hire a private chef to prepare weekly meals
• Home massage every week
• Facial treatments every month
• Hire cleaning ladies weekly
• Maintain my size 10 and build a toned body

Family & Fun

• Out-of-country family travel at least twice a year
• Shopping once a year in Hongkong, Singapore or Dubai
• Finance my siblings’ business endeavours
• Visit Amanpulo and Boracay
• Stay in 5-star hotels when vacationing
• Have a no-gadget day weekly

Possessions

• Own farm
• Own beachside resort
• Another house in the city with a big garden & pool
• Own commercial building
• A Range Rover
• An herb garden

Charity

• Start a reading & feeding program for kids
• Start a Talag-Cruz foundation
• Tithe 10% and more of our income
• Increase our World Vision sponsored children

That’s all I can think of for now. I’m quite certain that this list will evolve – I’ll lose interest in some and add a few along the way – that’s why I’m excited to check this post after a few years.

I encourage you to do the same. This post might help you get started. Remember, it all starts with dreaming. It is possible to manifest the life you want. Some dreams take a long time, but most happen quicker than you’d expect. You just have to start.
